Vintage knits

I'm excited as I'm about to embark on my first attempt at knitting something other than a scarf - I'm going to try the "Such Flattering Puff Sleeves" top from A Stitch in Time (which you can find on the Books page).

In order not to go-it-alone as a knitter, I've joined www.ravelry.com. It's a great resource for knitters where you can set up your own profile and list projects you're working on, yarn you've got stashed, projects you aim to start. You can read other people's profiles and find patterns and information on yarns too. This is handy in my case as I bought some Debbie Bliss "Cathay" in the John Lewis sale (because I liked the colour) then realised it doesn't say on the label what thickness it is. A friend directed me to Ravelry, where I was able to look it up and find out it's double knit. Phew! There's also groups people have set up - in fact, there's one for A Stitch in Time so you can chat with other knitters about it.

There is a waiting list for Ravelry, but only a few days, and it's definitely worth joining if you knit or crochet!
